St. Nicholas

19th century Russian icon - Triptych with Crest.  The central, modified , ogee-arch crest presents God the Father surrounded by clouds; each lateral half-crest contains a full-length figure: archangel Gabriel (PR) and The Mother of God, forming "The Annunciatin" subject.

The central icon depicts St. Nicholas Wonderworker. St. Nicholas holds the gospel and gives a blessing. His bearded head is flanked by half-length figures of Jesus Christ and the Mother of God.

Each smaller leaf displays two scenes, one over one: on PR, "Entrance into Jerusalem" above "Meeting in the Temple" and , on PL "Descent into Hades" above " The Ascension" . Each subject is identified by an OCS inscription. Border reserves of enamel are defined with a twisted-wire design. The half-width wings pivot on pintle hinges, with a flange on the PR closing over the PL when the wings are folded.

Cast brass. Good condition, never been restored.
