Triptych The Mother of God: Joy of All Who Sorrow
19th century Russian icon - Triptych with Crest-The Mother of God: The Joy of All Who Sorrow (Radost) The central, modified , ogee-arch crest presents God the Father surrounded by clouds; each lateral half-crest contains a full-length figure: archangel Gabriel (PR) and The Mother of God, forming "The Annunciation" subject. The central leaf depicts The Mother of God, who stands with Her arms extended outward, over figures kneeling at her side. Above are two banners with Old Church Slavonic inscriptions. Each smaller leaf displays two scenes, one over one: on PR, "Entrance into Jerusalem" above "Meeting in the Temple" and , on PL "Descent into Hades" above " The Ascension" . Each subject is identified by an OCS inscription. Border reserves of enamel are defined with a twisted-wire design. The half-width wings pivot on pintle hinges, with a flange on the PR closing over the PL when the wings are folded. Cast brass. Very good condition, never been restored. Item IM 114 19th century
